Nothing in this policy limits your statutory rights.
Where you purchased your book
This policy applies only to purchases made directly through the Stonecurrent Press website.
Books purchased through Amazon, another online retailer, a bookshop or any other third-party seller must be returned through that seller. Its returns procedure will apply because your purchase contract is with that business.
Books purchased directly through the Stonecurrent Press website may be printed and dispatched by BookVault or dispatched by Stonecurrent Press. Stonecurrent Press remains responsible for handling cancellation, return and refund requests for these orders.
Please contact us before returning anything. We will confirm whether a return is required and provide the appropriate instructions.
Returns authorised by Stonecurrent Press should be sent to:
Stonecurrent Press
Beech House
Newbiggin
Temple Sowerby
Cumbria
CA10 1TA
United Kingdom
Do not send an unauthorised return. A replacement or refund may sometimes be arranged without requiring the book to be returned.
Cancelling an order before dispatch
Contact us as soon as possible if you wish to cancel an order.
If production or dispatch has not begun, we will cancel the order and issue a full refund using the original payment method.
Some books are printed after an order is received. It may therefore be impossible to stop production or dispatch. This does not remove any cancellation rights that apply after delivery.
Your right to cancel a physical-book order
If you are a consumer who purchased a physical book online, you may cancel the order without giving a reason.
You must tell us that you wish to cancel within 14 days beginning on the day after you receive the book.
If an order is delivered in separate packages on different days, the cancellation period begins on the day after you receive the final package.
You may notify us by email or use the model cancellation form at the end of this policy.
After notifying us, you must return the book within a further 14 days. Please wait for return instructions before sending it.
Condition of returned books
You may inspect a book as you would in a bookshop.
You are responsible for any reduction in value caused by handling beyond what is reasonably necessary to establish the book’s nature, characteristics and condition.
We may reduce the refund where a returned book has been marked, damaged, extensively handled or otherwise diminished in value while in your possession.
Please package returned books securely. We recommend obtaining proof of postage.
Return postage when you change your mind
If you cancel because you have changed your mind, you are responsible for the direct cost of returning the book unless Stonecurrent Press agrees otherwise.
Do not return a book to BookVault, Amazon, IngramSpark or another retailer or fulfilment address unless you purchased it through that business and have been instructed to do so.
Refunds following cancellation
We will refund:
- the price paid for the returned book; and
- the cost of our least expensive standard delivery option, where an outbound delivery charge was paid.
If you selected a more expensive delivery method, we are not required to refund the additional amount above the cost of standard delivery.
We will issue the refund within 14 days after receiving the returned book or, if earlier, within 14 days after you provide evidence that it has been sent back.
The refund will normally be made using the payment method used for the original purchase unless another method is expressly agreed.
Personalised books
The right to cancel because you have changed your mind does not apply to a book produced to your specification or clearly personalised for you, such as a copy containing a dedication requested for a named recipient.
A standard printed copy is not treated as personalised merely because it was printed after the order was placed.
Personalised books remain covered by your statutory rights if they are faulty, damaged, incorrectly supplied or not as described.
Signed copies
A standard signed copy may be returned under the ordinary cancellation provisions above unless it also contains a personalised dedication produced at your request.
Faulty, damaged or incorrect books
Please contact us promptly if a book arrives:
- damaged;
- defective;
- incorrectly printed or bound;
- materially different from its description; or
- different from the title, format or edition ordered.
Include your order number and a description of the problem. Photographs of the book and packaging may help us resolve the matter quickly.
Where a book is faulty, damaged, incorrectly supplied or not as described, we will provide an appropriate remedy in accordance with your statutory rights. Depending on the circumstances, this may be a replacement, repair, price reduction or refund.
Stonecurrent Press will bear reasonable return costs where a return is required because the book is faulty, damaged, incorrectly supplied or not as described. Please obtain return instructions before sending it.
Damage caused after delivery through misuse, neglect, accidental damage or unreasonable handling is not treated as an inherent fault.
Lost or delayed deliveries
Delivery estimates are not guarantees unless we have expressly agreed a specific delivery date.
Contact us if an order has not arrived within the estimated period shown in your order confirmation. We will check its status with BookVault or the relevant delivery company.
Unless a different period has been agreed, goods will be delivered without undue delay and no later than 30 days after the contract is made.
If delivery cannot be completed within the legally required or agreed period, you may have the right to cancel and receive a refund.
Stonecurrent Press is not responsible for delay or failed delivery caused by an incorrect or incomplete delivery address supplied by the customer. Additional costs arising from resending an order may be charged where the original failure resulted from incorrect information.
Ebook and other digital purchases
Where an ebook or other digital product is purchased directly from Stonecurrent Press, you may have a 14-day cancellation right.
If you request immediate access to digital content during that period, you will be asked to confirm expressly that:
- you consent to the digital content being supplied immediately; and
- you understand that you lose the right to cancel once downloading or access begins.
Once the download or access has begun following that express consent and acknowledgement, the change-of-mind cancellation right ends.
This does not affect your rights where digital content is faulty, corrupted, inaccessible or not as described.
Digital products purchased through Amazon, another ebook platform or a third-party retailer are subject to that seller’s refund procedure.
Editorial services
Consumers purchasing an editorial service online normally have 14 days from the date the contract is made in which to cancel.
If you want Stonecurrent Press to begin work during that 14-day period, we will ask for your express request.
If you subsequently cancel after work has begun at your request, you may be charged a proportionate amount for the work completed up to the time you notified us of cancellation.
If the service has been fully performed during the cancellation period after you expressly requested an early start and acknowledged that the cancellation right would be lost on full performance, the right to cancel will end.
No cancellation charge will exceed the reasonable value of the work already completed.
Separate terms covering the scope, timetable, payment arrangements and deliverables for each editorial assignment will be supplied before work begins.
The Stonecurrent Press business address may be used for correspondence connected with editorial services. Manuscripts and other physical materials should not be sent unless Stonecurrent Press has agreed to receive them.
Refunds for editorial services
If Stonecurrent Press cancels an editorial assignment before completing any work, any payment made for that work will be refunded.
If we are unable to complete an agreed service, we will discuss an appropriate revised timetable, partial refund or full refund according to the work already completed.
Dissatisfaction with editorial advice does not in itself establish that a service was defective. Editorial assessment necessarily involves professional judgement.
This does not affect your statutory rights where a service was not provided with reasonable care and skill or did not correspond with what was agreed.
How to request a cancellation, return or refund
Email editorial@stonecurrentpress.co.uk with:
- your name;
- order number;
- the title, product or service purchased;
- the date of purchase and, where applicable, delivery;
- the reason for contacting us, although no reason is required for a statutory change-of-mind cancellation; and
- photographs where an item is damaged or faulty, if available.
We will provide instructions appropriate to the order.
Please do not send books, manuscripts or other materials to the business address without first contacting us.
